Giuseppe Di Salvatore

Giuseppe Di Salvatore first trained as a philosopher (PhD, Rome and Paris), then worked as a researcher in Geneva before founding a Philosophical Research Centre in Verona. He has edited and curated academic articles and volumes on epistemology and the philosophy of religion, including works on authors such as Edmund Husserl, Jan Patočka, Karl Bühler, and Eugenio Coseriu, as well as an Italian-language anthology of Clement Greenberg’s writings. After three years of working as a video journalist, he co-founded FILMEXPLORER in Basel in 2016 together with Ruth Baettig, an online platform entirely dedicated to discourse on art films, where he serves as Editor-in-Chief. Since then, he has been active as a film and art curator and critic, serving occasionally as a panelist and member of selection committees for film festivals. Recently, he has also initiated several expanded cinema projects and events.

Giuseppe Di Salvatore (Hg.), Fabienne Liptay (Hg.): The Sirenic: Follow the Water, Follow the Sound

“Follow the Water Follow the Sound” is a call and response. Far removed from the associations of seduction and fear that the siren — both as mythological figure and alarm device — has inspired, it is an invitation to another perceptual attunement to our environment. Offering an original perspective, the book imagines the “Sirenic” as a practice oriented towards emergent futures, fabulations of becoming and pedagogies of transformation.

The book engages with notions of singing, voicing and listening that reach into a sonic pluriverse. Through these notions, it provides the grounds for an expanded conception of cinema emerging through sound, music and performance.

Bringing together scholars, curators and artists from across disciplines, the book unfolds as a polyphonic publication. Echoing one another in multiple ways, the authors explore the mythologies and ecologies of water, the poetics and politics of voice, and the invocation of a communal spirit through film and other arts.
